if i had to choose where i fall, i would choose agnostic evolutionism because i am not an atheist but religion is not a large part of my life. i accept the idea that life has evolved over millions of years, but i also do not deny the existince of a supernatural being. it is so controversial becausse of the thousands years in which humans have chooseto belive in a supernatural almighty force, whether polytheistic early religions or the more modern monotheistic religion of today.and the study of science to today and the idea of evolution

I, Like Kellen would also choose agnostic evolutionism because religion is not a part of my life at all (at least at this point in my life) and I think that the whole controversy over teaching evolution in schools is pointless. Evolution has scientific data to back it up, which religion does not. The idea of a supernatural being just does not seem realistic. I do think religion is an important part of our society, (because of morals and well being)It basically keeps our society intact. but, when religion gets in the way of teaching the future generation about what really happened that's when it has gone to far.

Evolution is controversial because people who are not religious or just somewhat religious think that is a logical explanation for how everything panned out, whereas more religious people hold dear to their beliefs which are not as compatible with the idea, therefore they reject it. I would choose old earth creationism, because I do not believe in evolution. My question is why are species not continuing evolving? Did they just stop? If so when? That is why I don't believe in it.

I think that Evolution is so controversal because the theory goes against what people's religious views are and they want to stay true to there religious backround. On the specturm I think that I fall into the agnostic evolution thery because I am not at the point of renouncing my faith.

Evolution is extremely controversial topic in many ways and the notion of evolution being taught or believed in enrages many people. It is hard topic to debate about. People hold their beliefs near and dear to their hearts and it is hard to argue against someone's personal ideas while maintaining proper respect for them. I personally do not believe in evolution. In Matthew chapter 7 verse 16 of the King James Bible it says "Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?" Every living thing follows the pattern of its parentage. Why would God have us evolve from slime or some other weird creature? God created man in his own image, with a direct line from him to us, with no strange pattern in between.

If anywhere I agree most on the spectrum is the theory of theistic evolution, which believes that God and Evolution co-exist. I do have faith in God creating everyone of us individually, yet I also like to know that human species have originated scientifically from somewhere rather than just formed with every characteristic of a human in the first place. The definition of Theistic Evolution is "belief that evolution is like any other science and is compatible with Christian beliefs, but not with a literal interpretation of Genesis." http://www.allviewpoints.org/RESOURCES/EVOLUTION/spectrum.htm#Theistic_Evolution
Not Knowing the origin of Genesis, I was able to research and see in the interpretation of Genesis in the Bible, stating that God saw good on Earth and provided everything creatures needed to survive "30 And to every beast of the earth, and to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food." So combining such faith with modern science, I believe that the human species has grown off of what God has provided for us, having the full intention that we will eventually adapt as a new species.

This is controversial because all of the views are so different from each other. People ideas are drastically different from each others. I am an Agnostic anyway so I would fall under the agnostic evolution because I'm undecided. Why couldn't god have created the dense ball that was the big bang and evolution go from there? That's not what I believe but it could be what happened. The point is that people don't have open minds so whenever someone provides any proof or a new theory it just gets shut down. My theory is IDK.

Evolution is extremely controversal because there are two strongly opinioned sides to it: religion and science which are subjects that both happen to be easy to argue with. However, believers or non-believers seem to involve proof in their opinions, whether it's needed or not. I personally do not agree or believe in evolution because of my religious views and therefore I believe God created man and Earth and everything living.

I think Evolution is so controversial because many people believe God created the Earth while others believe it happened overtime and not by God. Both of these opinions are a highly brought up debate since one believes in a creator while the other mainly does not. In my opinion I do not fall anywhere on the spectrum because none of the reasons given were what I believe in. I do not belive in evolution at all but I am not totally conservative. I think that God created the Earth and man but this does not mean that the traits and adaptations for humans and animals have not changed overtime. We have developed from caveman to the society we are today and the Earth had a little help in that. As you can see, many opinions have already been shared on the blog and they are all not the same, which is obviously why all these theories are so controversial.

According to http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/evolution/educators/lessons/lesson7/index.html, evolution is controversial because science is trying to explain a phenomenon that religions have already tried to explain for themselves. I think it is controversial because evolution is based a lot off of religious beliefs, and some people choose not to listen/believe what a religion that they don’t follow says about evolution. On the spectrum, I think I mostly fall in the agnostic evolutionism category. Like Kellen and Jacob, religion is not a big part of my life, and I still support the belief of evolution but do not wish to bring faith and the story of creation (Genesis) into the controversy. I understand people who are atheist and believe that evolution is only how god created life, but I am curious if there is a way that god made something (creationism) and then things started to evolve from that one thing. Saying that, I also want to mention that I don’t think the agnostic evolution completely contrasts with the atheist revolution.

Of any of the beliefs in the chart, I belong to the Atheistic Evolutionism. My number one reason is because I see absolutely no evidence that there is a creator of the universe, nonetheless, one of mankind. There is far more evidence of evolution. First of all, DNA is evidence that all organisms derived from something simple. Mutations can change DNA over time, creating a whole new kind of organsim. Also, the fact that all organisms have similar DNA, in fact, the chimpanzee contains 96% of the DNA humans have. Our human DNA creates an appendix, which is useless to us today, but was usefull at some point before we were ever humans. It changed because of mutations in the DNA from not having to use the appendix as much over time. It's also the reason to why we are resistant to certain diseases, as well as bacterias being resistant to anitbiotics. Where is there a God in this? Another link to evolution is the theory of an asteroid colliding into the Earth. It may have had bacteria on it, which could have very well been the base of all life on Earth today. There was a fossil found of a 3.4 billion year old bacterium inside a piece of sandstone. That's not much younger than the Earth is, geologically speaking. More can be read here: http://news.discovery.com/space/microfossil-bacteria-oldest-earth-110821.html. They thrived on sulfur because the Earth didn't have oxygen-proven by rock samples. Over time again, the Earth's interior kepted on heating up, creating oxygen and other chemicals to create water, where most life thrived in at the very beginning. Life on Earth can't live without water and oxygen. The key thing to evolution is "over time". If there wasn't such a thing, how would humans have progressed? Right at this moment through sexual selection, we are becoming something new. Also, connecting to mutations and DNA change, but in a more immediate change is physical fitness. For example, if one lifts weights and runs over time, they are going to be in better health and more physically efficient. Atheistic Evolutionism is considered evil a lot of times plainly because of the absence of a God, which many believe is the creator of everything.

The topic is very controversial because it deals with religion. Normally, people have very strong beliefs about religion. For many people the beliefs are so strong that they can get insulted by someone trying to go against their beliefs. It is hard to talk about in school because everyone believes something different, and they don’t want to hear anything but the theory they believe. I would say I fall under young earth creationism. I think I fall there because of my religion and I do believe in intelligent design and that the beginning of the earth follows the stories in the bible.

Creationism vs. evolution is so controversial because some choose to believe what was told to them and others choose to believe what has some scientific evidence. I fall on a new side of the argument, the side that can be defended with two words. I do not believe in creationism, nor necessarily evolution. I believe in what can be proved, so at the minute, nothing is set in stone or true. Hence the two words are “Prove it”.

Anonymous said...

Creationism and Evolution are controversial because for many years humans have believed that God created us and all life. Evolution stepped in and changed people's minds. Some strongly believe in Creationism and other's strongly believe in Evolution. I don't know where exactly i fall in that spectrum. My religion tells me to believe in creationism, but facts are telling me other wise. I guess i'm just waiting for more solid proof that evolution did/is happening.

Anonymous said...

The controversy of Evolution or Creationism rages because belief is personal. People are hyper sensitive to comments related to religion. The reason evolution is able to be taught in school is because schools are just supplying a different perspective, not what to believe. Also, there is only one commonly known evolution theory compared to many religious beliefs. For me, I believe I lie in the theistic evolution category. I believe there is a Supernatural being and that he created the first creature, but I believe we evolved from the organism he created. I agree with Ava that Evolution and Creation can co-exist. We are such complex beings that it is tough to believe we were created in a blink of an eye. I believe we were started, but evolution finished us up.

Evolution and Creationism are controversial becuase what goes into each belief can be very personal and very different. Religion and science are valued differently with each indivdual person and that affects their views. I would choose agnostic evolutionism because religion is not a big part of my life. Evolution mostly makes sense to me. I don't really know if there is a supreme being or not but I know that scientists can look at solid data to make these statements about evolution.

Creationsim verses Evolution is such a large issue, mainly because of peoples' faiths and religions. The way individuals have grown, what they've been taught, and what they've seen are all going to effect what they believe. Obviously, that gives the issue a large variety and amount of opinions. This is going to be controversial when discussed because it's easy to insult some one with what they've grown to believe, and they'll want to fire back insults. I think I fall on the young earth creationism part of the spectrum. This is because there is so much evidence out there, so much ancient artifacts and scripts found that support the events of the bible a long time ago. For example, the dead sea scrolls and archeologists have found 1,000 year old books from Exodus. Also I've learned in my world geography and civilizations class that there has been artifacts written in stone that weren't even from the bible, just a story written down by some other person living in that time. I don't think thousands of the pages of the bible were written for fun, but for us to find the purpose in living. Anyway, that's just what I believe and this controversy is a huge part of peoples lives and it can't be spoken and discussed calmly or effectively. Following Madeline P, I don't think we will ever discover a solid answer, but we can sure keep exploring our world to find more solved mysteries. And like she said, solid proof so we can know exactly what has happened and the way we can react to that.

I believe that there is controversy over creationism vs. evolution because some people that are religious, and very radically so, will tend to ignore the scientific evidence behind evolution, and therefore try to make everyone else see the beginning of life their way because they believe that they are right. On the spectrum I am definitely an eight, an atheist evolution. I think that the existence of a god or any other supernatural being is a fantasy. There is no hard evidence to back up that there was, is, or ever will be a supreme being in the sky, and I cannot make myself believe in something that doesn’t have any proof. To me it makes more sense that people were created out of slime than from one man that created everything in 6 days. To quote the Bible, Genesis 1:1-2:4a, God created light on the first day. He created the sun, moon and stars, or in other words, the light sources, on the fourth day.

Anonymous said...

I believe that this topic is controversial mainly because of religion. Religion is a huge part in many people's lives, and sometimes shadows other decisions that they make. Because of this, like andrea said, they might tend to ignore the scientific evidence backing certain researches. People don't like to hear that they're wrong, so they become extremely opinionated on topics. In my personal beliefs, I honestly don't think I can place myself on a spectrum. I am continuing to learn as I progress through teenage years, and therefore I don't think I have enough experience and evidence and even different opinions to make a solid decision that describes what I believe in. However, at this point, I believe that evolution did happen, and that the facts are facts. We can't say that a supernatural being created all that we know only because a big book written by a handful of Christian prophets told us we have to.

If I were to fall on the spectrum of beliefs in regards to evolution, I would probably fall under the catagory theistic evolution. I believe that evolution and god can/do co-exist. I think this is such a controversal topic because not every parent want's there kid learning about this in school. If they decided to put their kid in a private school, then they really have no say. Like Michaela said, people don't like to hear that they are wrong that's why they don't like to deepen their learning into evolution.

I believe that the idea of evolution is very controversial. I think that the main reason that it is so controversial is because of religion and the fact that people have many different views on things like evolution and how the earth was created. I think that it is really odd how people can be offended so easily by what other people think about this subject. There are many things to think about it, and no one is wrong. On the spectrum, I believe that I would fall sort of in the middle, but a little bit towards the atheist side of the topic. I think that God or some higher power started up the world and got life going on Earth, but after that, I don't think that God has had a big role in how we have been living our lives. People are the ones controlling what is happening. If someone thinks that God controlled everything from the beginning till now, I'm not saying that they are wrong, it's just no what I believe in. It doesn't bother me that other people have different opinions and surprises me that the people in Inherit The Wind, took such great offense to the whole idea of evolution.

Anonymous said...

Evolution is controversial, because people have strong, different beliefs on how it happened/its existence, whether it be religious or factual. When you have people whom have a strong position on the concept, you have a controversy.
On the Evolution scale, I fall mostly under Theistic Evolution (5b), because I do not believe evolution to be solely on reason, but rather a combination of both. I agree that God created the land as we know it (such as "A Big Bang", as I don't see any factual evidence for this part of the "story") and then let it be, and let it evolve alone. This allows for a both religious side, while still staying true to the facts that are present.

Anonymous said...

Evolution is so controversial because people who are set on their beliefs find it hard to believe that the idea of evolution is correct or logical, and people who back up evolution with scientific facts find it hard to believe that religious ideas are correct because they don’t have scientific facts to back their beliefs up with. I fall under Gap Creationism because my beliefs are creationism mixed with some scientific facts that support evolution. I believe in mostly creationism but I also believe that some of the scientific facts support logical ideas about evolution. Also both ideas show good scientific or biblical support behind them and they fill in the missing gaps that the other idea causes.

I think it is ok for now if our leaders don't give their opinion on the subject of evolution. We are all leaders though, and we should have our own thoughts and not argue about who's is better. That is compareable to saying "my dad can beat up your dad". I believe it is not our job nor what we have been called for (if someone is even wanting a purpose for us). I love all the evidence pointing in the direction of evolution and all that it means. But to be honest, I dont believe in any of these catagories, I agree with parts of them, but none make complete sence. If it were a life threatening situation I would place myself in the evolution catagorie because thats what makes the most sence to me.

Anonymous said...

The subject of evolution and creationism is controversial because the literal interpretation of the bible does not always correspond with scientific facts. I believe that God created the Earth, science and evolution. I guess I would fall somewhere in the 4s and 5s. (probably Evolutionary Creationism) This is because I believe that every aspect of science proves that only God could create such perfection and complexity in life. How could the development of simple organisms result in multiple complex lifeforms through evolution on accident?

Anonymous said...

Evolution is a very controversial subject. The reason is that when people talk about evolution, it questions faith within the religious community. However, it's often overlooked that both evolution and creationism can coexist peacefully. Evolution could explain why humans share traits with apes and monkeys. Creationism could explain how everything came to be as it first was before evolution.

Anonymous said...

If I had to place myself on the Spectrum of Creation Beliefs I would put my self in the range of 7, Agnostic Evolution. I put myself here because I don't believe that we should be ignorant enough to only think there is one way of creation, but I strongly believe in the science of evolution. Following Megan D, evolution is very controversial because of religion and people don't want to believe in anything else. Which is why I place myself at 7, so I can allow other creation ideas to be analyzed.

Anonymous said...

Evolution is controversial because it conflicts with religion. Public schools should be allowed to teach from a science perspective and show facts but people see it as the opposite of their religion, and get offended when someone contradicts their beliefs. I think it is important to see both sides: creation and evolution to TRULY decide what we believe rather than what we hear. I don't think I know enough about evolution as I could/should. I have read and I believe the facts in the bible are true, I agree with MaddieF. I would say I fall on #2 Geocentrism because I believe what science has been proven: that the Earth revolves around the Sun, but I also believe in the literal interpretation of the bible.

Anonymous said...

Evolution is controversial because, there really is no right or wrong answer. It's not black and white. Religion plays such a big roll in thoughts of evolution. I would also fall under the Old Earth Creation just because I don't believe in evolution to a certain extent. My life has been very religious and the whole idea of us evolving from animals seems ridiculous, considering the bible clearly states that humans came before animals. That's why evolution is more of a theory than a solid known fact.

I think that evolutions is controversial because most religious people think that it goes against the teachings of the bible. The bible teaches creationism not evolution. I think that I fall more towards the evolution side of the spectrum because it seems the most practical compared to humans being created through a super natural being. However, I do not know for sure what happened. I actually don't think anyone actually knows for sure. They may believe but the proof isn't there...yet. I think that the earths history is slowly unwinding. I agree with Josh L because there is more to back up evolution than there is to back up creationism in my personal view point.

Anonymous said...

i think that evolution is also controversial, because there are some religions that goes against the bible and some that do go against the bible. It pretty much depends on your religion i think. For example, Atheistic people dont believe in faith or literal reading of genesis, but does allow evolution. Then Flat Earth is the total opposite. They do allow and believe in faith and literal reading of genesis, but does not allow for evolution.

Anonymous said...

its controversial in the fact that it can be looked at from a religious stand point. in certain religions, god created man and we evolved from that, but the science behind evolution says otherwise. i personally agree with what scientists say evolution is, like what Charls Darwin said, survival of the fittest. the organisms and speicis that learned to adapt and fine food, water, and shelter are the ones that will come out on top in the end. i fall towards the evolution side of things, i believe that we all evolved from micro organisms way back when the earth was first starting out. one thing that i personally believe about evolution is that we are not the only ones doing it, if evolution is possible on earth, why not other planets? for all we know everyother galaxy out their could be just like ours with places that are a fit environment for life.

I think that on the spectrum I probably fall on the Deistic Evolution side. I don't really believe that we were just created, but I also don't necessarily believe that we evolved. Deistic Evolution shows that both being created and evolved happened. I do agree with the thought that god doesn't have much to do with why we are here.
I think that evolution is controversial because there are so many different views. Depending on how religious a person is can help determine how they think that people got here. Some people are very religious and believe in creation so much that they refuse to even think that we could have evolved. And it's the same the other way around. Some people believe so strongly in evolution that they don't think creation is even possible.

Creationism vs. Evolution is a very controversial debate because both sides have strong opinions about their beliefs. Religion and science have clashed about how the earth and the beings (us) that inhabit the Earth. I think there are so many disagreements because creationists have been taught about super natural forces (god) creating the earth since childhood. They hold their beliefs so dear to them, and when evolution was brought into the picture they took it as an offense to everything they trusted. But evolution a reasonable argument about how everything got here but the bible has written passages about how everything was created. In my opinion you can’t just have one. Creation depends on evolution because living creatures adapt to their surroundings but how would the creatures adapt if they were never created. I fall under theistic evolution where both sides co-exist.

Evolution is controversial because people want everyone to believe in the same things that they do, and if anyone says something different, then they get mad.
I believe in the Flat Earth, Young Earth Creationism, and the Intelligent Design. I believe that God created the universe in 6 short days, and that the earth can only be 6,000 years old. I also believe that the whole concept of evolution is stupid and can’t be possible, because I was raised to believe that. Also, I have dug deeper and realized for myself how the only thing that could possibly true is the Bible.

I agree with Dana M. on the reason that there are so many different religions especially branched off of the Catholic Church. According to Hartsem university there are over 335,000 types of religions in just the US. I fall on the spectrum as a evolutionary creationism. The reason for this is because as a Catholic I believe that the Bible especially in translation is occasionally not to be taken literally. Like in Genesis the Bible says it took God a day to create the Earth but what was lost in translation is that a day in Greek was also a period of time. So even though a day we think of as 24 hours really it could be just a period of time.

Evolution is surprisingly controversial because people who already believe in Christianity and how God created the Earth, and find it hard to believe that evolution is the correct or right way of seeing how backing up their opinion on what they believe. As well as, the people who back up evolution scientific evidence to say evolution started before creationism, is hard to find that evolution ideas or religious beliefs are correct because there is no proof of scientists from way back when to believe evolution came before creationism. I fall under Creationism in the spectrum because I believe that God created the Earth and Evolution is just was an idea created to destroy what we believe really happened in Creationism not Evolution.

I believe it is so controversial, because both sides have formed their opinion on evolution and most of the time when you mind is made up it takes a lot to change your mind. You also would need strong evidence and true evidence to even in slightest way make you want to change your mind. If I had to choose where I fell, I would choose agnostic evolutionism because I am not an atheist, but religion is not a huge part of my life currently. I know the world had been growing and growing for millions of years and the way that things came about to make earth as we know it, however, I truly believe that there are or were at some point supernatural beings or a force present, to help speed up the development of earth. Even though we may not know exactly what these’s supernatural beings were it goes back on what you believe in, and your view and opinions on evolution.

Intelligent design and Evolution are both ideas that never cease to amaze with controversy. Some find that intelligent design is how the humans came about, this idea fueled by the book of Genesis(Adam and Eve. Then others tend to agree with Darwin and the proof he provided to show humans have evolved, thus we have evolution. I tend to believe that God put creatures on this Earth, and with that came monkeys, Darwin says humans evolved from monkeys... I tend to believe that. Even though things evolved God did create the first resemblance of what is now human. I fall under evolutionary creationism with my (above) beliefs.

1.)Creationism Vs. Evolution is a controversial subject because many people believe 100% in one or the other. This causes them to think they are right and people began to feud over the topic.

2.)I believe in Theistic Evolution. I believe that god created this earth and the first few living organisms. He then programmed them to evolve when he felt they were in need. I feel this is why Humans have not evolved yet, it is because we are still progressing and growing as a species. If I was to agree with anyone's post I would agree with JoannaH2015's because I feel she shares some of the same view points with me.

Evolution is so controversial because like Shelby said some parents do not want their kids taught this stuff because they think that evolution and god co-exist. Which they do not go together. They may also think that they don’t want their kids learning things they did not know or something that may not relate to their religion. On the spectrum I would be Theistic evolution because everything that happens in or around science should be taught in school because it does not relate to what god is all about or religion. Evolution is all around us and we should just accept it and teach it in school weather parents like it or not. What do you think should we teach evolution in school?

Evolution is controversal because science can proof micro evolution but not a world wide proof. It is mostly just a theory. People always comment where is your proof against evolution and the otherside says whats your proof for evolution. All this does is keep the world going in circles. On the spectrum I am Day-Age Creationism, who says that the actual meaning of day wasn't lost in translation.

Evolution is controversial because of religion. In many religions it is believed that god created the world not a mono cellular organism. If I were to place my self in a position I would place myself in the old earth creationism because I do believe in god but I also find geology and other sciences as well. I feel like I am in the middle of this and I could go either way.

Evolution is a very controversial because it deals with the thought of religion vs. science. Along with what Maddie F said, religion is a topic that a lot of people have strong beliefs in. When you try to conflict a problem that people have known there entire life and believed there entire life problems start occurring. Personally I think that I believe in Evolutionary Creationism. In my mind I think that both Genesis and Evolutionary is true. We don’t exactly need the thought of only one is real.

Evolution is very controversial because there are two strong opinions on this. You need a lot of evidence to change your mind. I think that it is important to know information on both sides. I would say I fall on #2 Geocentrism because I believe what science has been proven: that the Earth revolves around the Sun, but I also believe in the literal interpretation of the bible.

I am very religious, and I do believe that God created man and all of the earths inhabitants. On the spectrum of beliefs I fall at Evolutionary Creationism, because God is outside of time. Because we as humans do not comprehend that, we take the seven days literally, instead of recognizing that God is not in time. Also I note the very clear facts that Evolution has, and there is no denying that it is a solid theory along side of creationism. I think that this is such a controversial topic because people only think of it as a black and white issue. I believe that this issue is more gray than anything because there is solid evidence behind both. Also where I land on the spectrum allows for religion and creationism and evolution. I think that it is most possible that God had his hand in evolution. It takes less faith to believe that a higher being created us, than it does to believed that we randomly exploded out in space.

Anonymous said...

I believe that the topic of evolution is so controversial because there is not enough concrete evidence to prove either side of the argument. Not only that but there are two sides to the argument, plus all of the arugments that fall inbetween. If I had to chose where I fall on the spectrum it would probably be Deistic or Agnostic. This is because I believe more in the science approach to evolution rather than the religious, but at the same time I still partially believe, and at least understand the argument that the religious side has.

Anonymous said...

If I had to chose were I land on the spectrum I would put myself in an Agnostic Evolutionist belief. I strongly believe in evolutionary science but I'm not going to include one's belief in the theory. Evolution is controversial because people have to always get their beliefs involved instead of just letting the science be true.

Anonymous said...

Evolution is obviously controversial because of the religious aspect. Since there are many different religions and different beliefs of evolution, they could not possibly go by without controversy. Belief and faith propels religion and is the basis for all religions. Believing in what you cannot always see, but still fully believing it was there. Now evolution is countering religious beliefs with claims of evidence proving their faith wrong. How could this not become controversial, because neither side will budge on their belief systems. I fall on the spectrum around 5 because I am religious but still allow some aspects of evolution to come into my belief system of how life and the world begun. I am open minded to the religious story and the scientific evidence while still maintaining my faith. I do not fully believe in all aspects of evolution, but I still do allow quite a bit to enter my system of beliefs because I have personally researched both and found a happy medium for my beliefs.

Evolution is controversial because the people that believe in it believe in all scientific facts and people on the creationism side beliefs come from purely faith with biblical support instead of scientific facts. There for there isn't really a middle for people to agree apon. I believe in pure creation that God created the earth and all in it. So I would fall into the Geocentrism category because it is biblically supported.

I believe that these theories are so controversial because the variation of belief is so broad and each theory contradicts the others. I think that on the spectrum I would fall in the area near Geocentrism because it has biblical and evidential support.

If I had to chose where I stand I would have to choose Agnostic Evolution, I rather not have to take a position on faith. My family and I are not very religious anymore due to the fact that my mom is Catholic and my step dad is Jewish, we have come across a happy median of celebrating both Hanukkah and Christmas and if we want to pray to our own gods we can, but on our own. Evolution is such a controversial topic due to what religions believe in, and I believe that the controversy in schools is pointless. Some people take it way too far and ruin the whole point about learning it through science with all the evidence to back it up.

Evolution will always be a controversial subject. Due to different religions and the more we start learning about the past ideas and theories will constantly change. How someone is raised will usually affect which side they chose (evolution vs. creationism). Its hard to break some one of what they were taught as a kid in accordance of religion, but it is also hard to deny the facts. THis is why, as of right now, I agree with Paula. I fall somewhere in the 4s and 5s. At this point in my life I my beliefs are the most parallel to evolutionary creation. I think that God started life on Earth, but then those living organisms adapted and grew into different things and so on.

I believe that I fall on agnostic evolution in terms of beliefs. I believe in a higher power and religious aspects but I don’t rely on religion to explain how and what happened to the earth. I believe in evolution because of the scientific fact and how species continue to evolve over time and prove the theory. Survival of the fittest and natural selection can also be shown though out history as well in the beginning of time. I think that it is hard to mix religion and science and comes down to basic opinion, not right or wrong.

Evolution is controversial because, while science has the facts to back it up, religion has the faith and has been taught all down through history. It also clashes with the ideals of a supernatural being creating the world. I fall on the spectrum as a deistic evolutionist. I believe that god had created the universe and what makes it up, but I don''t believe he created the Earth in seven days like the Bible says. I don't buy that god could create us in seven days, but i also don't know how or why the particles came to be. So I use science and religion as bricks and filler. One has structure, the other holds it together.

I believe that evolution is a very controversial subject because most people say that the earth and animals were created from god and others believe it was al created by science. I believe in dieastic revolution because I think that God created earth and he created animals and humans to live on it. But i believe that the animals that God created evolved to there enviroment so there population could strive and survive.

I believe that God created the world, we have no way of knowing what time schedule he was on though seven days to God could be seven years to us... we won't ever know. I believe God created everything but I also believe the world had to evolve to all the changes and that led to new species being created and different color hair and skin in people, so I think I fall into the Progressive Creationism.

i beleive it is controversial to teach evolution because people believe that if evolution is taught than so should religion. and i think that i am agnostic because i dont beleive in a certain religion but i do believe there is a higher power.

Evolution is a hard thing to talk about because there are so many different beliefs on the subject matter. Some people think God was the source of creation, while others believe that science is the cause of creation. On the spectrum I fall under Theistic Evolution. I do believe that the something larger than us created some our world. Looking back on things I have learned, it wouldn’t make any sense for our universe to just appear out of thin air. Also, I don’t believe that God made the world have trust in what scientist have hypothesized and it makes way more sense in my mind. I agree with what Ava K. and Shelby have said. Summarizing what Ava said, we started with God and ended/ continued with science. Shelby said, “Evolution and God coexist”. I like the way she put that. What might be labeled “Theistic Evolution” can have a hundred variations to that. There are parts in other students writing I agree with and there are parts I disagree with. Evolution can represent many different ways. I don’t think one person believes the exact same person.

Evolution is so controversial because some people are religious and others are not, so they each have different opinions on how our world came to be today. Its also so controversial because there are no facts or evidence to support ones opinion. That is where the Creationism Vs. Evolution spectrum of beliefs falls into place. We each have our own opinions. I fall in the Atheistic Evolutionism part. I believe our world was only created by science. Although I still believe in god, i just believe he did not create the world and it was simply a scientific matter. But then again, there is no evidence that god didn't create our world.

Evolution is controversial because some people believe god made earth and others believe it was simply science. Everyone has an opinion. It's also controversial because there are no facts or evidence to support peoples opinion. I feel I fall in the Atheistic Evolutionism section. I think our world was only created by science. I understand some people believe that god created earth and some people believe it was just science but we have no evidence.

Evolution is very controversial because of the many differnet viewpoints and opinions that people have all over the worl today. Some of the beliefs can exist together and go on without conflict, but other points of view are completely opposite from one another and can not exist together. I fall on the specrum as "Young Earth Creationism" mainly because I am a very devoted Christian and think that God created the world and everything we know of it in 7 days, just like Genesis says. Althoug I am mainly Young Earth Creationism, i belive that God controls all scientific proof of evolution and related things like survival of the fittest and natural selection.

Evoution is controversial because it contradicts with religion that many people truly believe. They feel like evolution is saying that what they believe is wrong. No body likes to be told that they are wrong. I say that I would fall under the Young Earth Creationist belief. I believe that God made the Universe with out evolution and that we were placed on this earth as ourselves, not evolving from monkeys.

I believe I fall somewhere along the lines of Evolutionary Creationism. I don't really know where I stand on religion, it's tough but I think of everyone does what their supposed to do and live their life doing their best and being the best person possible then you can't really lose; but I believe there is something greater than us, something we can't fully understand but allow room to believe that if there is a creator he/she could possibly control evolution or how we came to be.

Evolution is controversial because there is the whole religious views and scientific views. Also because people have different opinions towards this topic some say it was purely science and others say it was God and it is hard to determine since of our small source of evidence. I believe in Evolutionary Creationism because I believe in my faith but also in science. I believe this because to me i think that the earth itself was created by science and by the Big Bang Theory and all those beliefs. But I also believe that God created life on earth such as the first men and women and night and day. This is because even though I am religious personally I believe the earth could only be made from science because of the circumstances but the I also believe that all of the rest of things that are written about in Genesis are true and did happen.

The reason why, like most people have already said evolution is controversial is because of where you fall on the belief system. If you want to believe in God, you follow that belief system and don’t believe in evolution. On the opposite side of the belief system where you don’t believe in God, you believe in evolution as an explanation of how everything came about. I am not quite sure where I fall on this spectrum I have my own outlook on how things came about. I guess I would put myself at the 5. Like Kate said, it is the happy medium to it all. I believe in some things toward on one side and some on the other. Theistic evolution allows for both evolution and my belief to come in to my decision over this controversial topic.

CharleK said...

This topic is a classic clashing of religion and science, but where it is most controversial is in the classroom. Should it be taught? Or more importantly, should the religious aspects of the topics be discussed in a public school? As for me, I have learned much about my beliefs from school. In the eyes of many this is a bad thing, for students should not be persuaded to think one way or another by a public educator or the public educational system. The way I see it, teaching various theories, related to evolution and unrelated to evolution is important. Teaching from more than one perspective opens up the learners mind. As far as the spectra goes, I fall about even. The principles I have been taught at home collide and conflict with what I have learned in and out of school.

I believe that evolution is controversial because in a way it does default the idea of a higher power and it disrupts certain religious groups believes this is why at many private schools darwin's theory of evolution is not taught at all

Anonymous said...

I believe that it is controversial because of how people believe humans came to be. Many people have facts to use as proof while others rely upon faith. On the Spectrum, I think I fall in the Theistic Evolution category. I have Some faith in my religion, but I do not truly believe that humans were just planted on the Earth. I'm in the middle of all the beliefs as I do believe in the theory of evolution and do not take everything inGenesis word for word. All of the things I learn at church and the theories I'm taught at school contrast each other greatly and it makes it hard to pick a side.

I think the topic of evolution is so controversial because a lot of people don't want to change what they fully believe in just because somebody has made a new theory. There are so many different types of faith and beliefs, but usually people only care about their own. Personally, I fall under the Day-Age Creationism because it just makes sense to me and it is what I believe in, and have grown-up believing in.

Anonymous said...

Evolution and creation are very controversial issues because they deal with different things. Evolution deals only with science whereas creation deals with religion. Everyone will not believe in creation just as everyone won't believe in evolution and they won't agree on which one is correct. Personally I believe in Agnostic Evolutionism. Maybe God did create the earth and mankind but the science makes more sense to me because there is data and theories to back it up. It is easier for me to follow a logical flow of data than to discuss theological beliefs. Bailey said, " I strongly believe in evolutionary science but I'm not going to include one's belief in the theory." I agree with this and I don't think that we should exclude one type of belief.

Julia L. said...

Evolution is a controversial issue because it’s a constant debate between religious and scientific beliefs. I think that the earth and everything living was created by God in six days. When people say that evolution should be taught in school, they don’t realize that both scientific and religious sides need to be shared. Some say that it should be taught, but only the scientific side should be. I completely disagree with only sharing one side because its bias. Even though some people say that evolution is backed by scientific proven evidence, I don’t believe it because for me, the bible is all the evidence I need to know that God created it all. I believe all this partly because I have been raised to believe it, but also because I believe it. If I had to decide where I would fall on the spectrum, I would probably say either Gap Creation and/or Intelligent Design. Gap Creation, because it looks between the lines of the book of Genesis and combines science with religion. Intelligent Design, because it states that not all things can be explained by science, suggesting God.

Julia L. said...

I also might fall in Evolutionary Creationism, but only in the sense of it being outside normal time.

The theory of Evolution and religion are so controversial because people are very strong in their opinions and don't want to be told they are wrong. On the spectrum I would say I mostly fall under Young Earth Creationism. I think because there are areas of questioning for both creationism and evolution, you can't talk about one without someone brining up the other. I also think that it is unfair that we are allowed to teach evolution in school, even though some students believe in creationism. However we aren't allowed to teach creationism when some people believe in evolution.

These topics are so controversial because it has a lot to do with opinion, you can’t refuse scientific fact, but you can chose to not believe in different theories. It is in the gray areas that thing become controversial. I think I fall under agnostic evolution because I don’t feel like it is my place to tell anyone if they are right or wrong in their beliefs because I, myself, am not entirely sure.

its controversial because everyone has a different opinion and arguments could be started by the different feelings toward creation vs. evolution.

i put myself on the spectrum scale at 7-8 because i strongly believe life is all science. I have a hard time being proven wrong with religion but I do respect opinions about religion.

This topic is so controversial because neither side can display enough evidence to prove or disprove anything. Also, if one idea such as evolution is taught, creationists may be upset because they may believe they are not being fairly acknowledged. I personally believe that both sides should equally be taught (in basic principle because there are branches of both theories). I think this is important because it gives kids a a good opportunity at a pivitol time in their lives to choose personally what they want to believe based upon the basics of both sides. Personally, I believe in the gap theory of creation because it ties the aspect of evidence of evolution into my religious faith.

I believe that evolution is so controversial because it challenges religon, and faith, which people have believed in for a very long time. The idea of evolution suggests that God may not have necessarily created human beings, and that we may have evolved from lower forms of life, which is a disconcerting thought fo
r many people. If I had to choose where I would fall on the spectrum, I would say agnostic evolution because I believe in evolution, but I am agnostic on the part of creationism. I feel that the science behind evolution backs up the evolution theory, and makes me think that it is true, but I am not sure if creationism and evolutionism should interfere with each other?

LouisH2014 said...

The reason why the evolution and creationism is controversial is because how the Earth was created as well as the species living on it directly relate to religion. Another reason why it is so controversial is because teaching evolution is perceived as attacking ones beliefs and life. When really, how much of the things taught in a class room really stick to a student? Is what is taught to a student while in biology class during high school, going to affect their personal beliefs for the rest of their life? I think the chances of that are low. That said I believe in intelligent design, mainly based off the complexity of the designs in organisms living today. And what I am taught in science class isn’t going to determine my faith in the creation of Earth.

well its cotroversial because it shows that not all of what books say or religion are true but is shown through evolution but its also vise versa. I fall with in religion and evolution because some stuff that happen can't be describe by evolution. There has to be something that explains what happens

Evolution is one of the most controversial subjects. In my opinion, it is so controversial because most people are extremely passionate about either religion or science. This passion can result in extreme views and therefore, extreme conflict. Evolution is especially controversial in schools and education because of the religious versus science beliefs, neither of which teachers can say is true.

Seeing as I'm not religious, I lean mostly on the science part of the spectrum. After reading the definitions of each point of view, I found that my views best coorespond with those of Atheistic Evolutionism. I mostly agree with Atheistic Evolutionism because it's completely based on schince and seems the most plausable to me.

I agree with AustinB regarding creatism vs. evolution. While watching the evolution video I found it interesting that the science professor was pro evolutuion yet he was a Roman Catholic. I believe in a higher power, however I think that a biological process had to take place before creation. I believe it is possible for both God and science to coexist. In other words, it's possible that God used the process of evolution for human life to roam the earth. Therefore I would fall on the spectrum in the belief of Theistic Evolution.

I believe in gap creationism because I believe that the world was created by God like it states in Genesis but I believe that overtime plants/animals/humans evolved over time like geological science has also proven through theories and tests.

What I don't understand is why people have to be so close-minded about evolution. Evolution and God can both exist; you just can't think about the Bible or other Holy Books so literally. I, personally, believe that those Holy accounts of what happened are condensed, metaphorical ways of telling the story of our coming to be. That whole "God created the earth in seven days" deal that gets everybody worked up when it comes to evolution is something I'd like to use as an example. Maybe God didn't create the earth in LITERALLY seven days. What was a day to God? A day could've been ten million years for all we know. I read a National Geographic article once and it explained how the early humans had these berries that grew on trees that they ate. The berry had a certain protein in it to develop the brain. And it being necessary for the early human to carry the berries in its hand, it was forced to become a biped and walk on two feet. After many years, we're naturally born to walk on two feet and we're pretty dang intelligent. That's the condensed Adam and Eve story right there. They ate the fruit from the trees and suddenly their brains developed and they're not beasts, roaming around naked anymore. The Bible and those books are just FASTER and funner (yes, I said funner) ways of telling the whole story. The Bible is probably a collection of stories that was passed down from generation to generation and morphed into a religion that we take way too literally. If we seriously would not consider anything that "goes against" our religion, we'd probably still believe the world was flat. And, look, we have proof that it's not. People have been in space and seen it with their own eyes. God and religion is more of the development of our spiritual being while evolution is our physical being. I guess the best category for me to fall under would be 5b, Theistic Evolution. Although, I still don't believe all that. I believe my own thing.

Evolution is a very controversial subject because many people believe in God. They believe that God created man and woman and that there is no possible way we evolved from a little speck in space. Also, a lot of people think that if we are forced to learn about evolution in school then it would only be fair to learn about religions allowing everyone to have their own opinion about the theory of evolution. I personally do not believe in one part of the evolution theory. I know that there is a God and that he created man and woman in his image and after his own likeness.

Evolution is a touchy subject because most people have their beliefs and are not willing to adjust them whatsoever. I think that I would fall in the young earth creationism because I am religious, and I do believe that God create life on Earth. Although I do believe this, I've never really learned the ideas of evolution. So, I am not opposed to it and think that i could very well see it both ways.

Evolution is controversial because there are two opinioned sides to it. One is religion and the other is science, which are subjects that happen to be easy to argue with. Believers or non-believers involve proof in their opinions because it is needed. I personally do not agree with evolution because of my religious views and I believe God created man and animals on Earth. But other people might not share the same views on this issue that I do.

The topic of Evolution VS. Creation is a very controversial one. On one hand evolution questions the faith of millions of people, but on the other, creationism goes against scientific beliefs and research. There is much debate, however one doesn't have to choose between believing in straight evolution or straight creationism, there is a whole spectrum of beliefs people have that allow for the possibility of either side. On the spectrum of Creationism VS Evolution I stand as a believer of Deistic Evolution because I can't think of anything other than a supernatural being that could start literally everything from nothing. I believe that god or another supernatural entity started the universe, then let it run on it's own without further interference. During the discussion in class there were others discussing that they think life started from a single life form, but that life form went on to evolve and create new life forms. I think that evolution is defiantly a real thing, that is still going on today, but I still believe that a supernatural being created the universe.

With this certain debate between Creation and Evolution, I was personally taught two differentiating ways: 1. The World was created within seven days and that we did not evolve into what we are know but simply made from the dust of the Earth and from the rib bone of Adam. 2. God created matter and energy and then the World became what we know now within billions of years. I must say that believe #2. (Sorry Mrs. Prevot but I must agree with Mrs. Anderson.)I believe in evolution AND creation, to a certain extent.

Anonymous said...

If I had to choose I would say agnostic because I have no strong belief in any of the creations and I wont truly believe in any of them until I see proof that it is the real theory.

Anonymous said...

Evolution is controversial because religions teach that god created the earth not through science. I am on the atheistic part of the spectrum and believe it was all evolutionary that we were created because I don't believe in a higher power and evolution is much easier to trust than faith

Evolution in controversial because it goes against what the Bible and other religions say. Evolution states that the world is billions of years old while the Bible says it is only about 6,000 years old. I rate myself at Young Earth Creationist. I believe that the Bible is the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

I think evolution is controversial because there are so many different idea and beliefs about how the earth came to be. Also many religions have opinions that influence others to think and believe one specific thing, when science says another thing. On the scale, I think I would fall in the theistic evolution part because I believe it was a combination on things that started life on earth.

Anonymous said...

The theory of evolution regards to science, religion, as well as philosophy of life. For those who rely on religion, religion refers to meaning and value of life. Human beings will be alone and helpless if no one supports their existence in the whole universe, if everything can be explained using icy science.

I believe in Deistic Evolution as god can't control everything as the bible tells. The world has its own fair rules. Even something random comes from butterfly effect, which is just hard to see. The only thing that is out of science's control is the Big Bang and things before. It's like god set a stage and make life live on without intervention or sympathy. Whatever, human beings are not life without emotions. Just this figure may give them some strength and hope to live on, which is good for their survival.

Anonymous said...

Also, if you try to keep science and god at the same time, and say the bible is just a condensed version of evolution, then what's the deal about god? is it still necessary? It will still be god even it has no will or intent and just let everything go?

Or, is human being's existence a coincedence or destiny?

I feel that this is controversial because people want to believe that god made people or they want to believe in their religion. There are also many different theories with evidence to support most of the theories. I would fall on the spectrum at the theistic evolution because the evidence they have is to hard to prove wrong. And evolution happens with animals all around us all the time.

I believe that it is controversial because people have their own spectrums of beliefs. Many people do not believe in evolution purely because they refuse to listen to any other perspective aside from their own. I myself am a Christian, but I am open to the idea of evolution, to an extent. I would not like to be taught it, but that may be due to the very convincing evidence and a logical mind; it is definitely hard to refute. I would like to think that I fall under Young Earth Creationist, but I believe that evolution and creationism can coexist, and maybe even, in time, I would believe in both. But I believe in the bible strongly.

Samuel Lopez-

Evolution is controversial because people try and prove what they cannot even fathom. From the beginning of time, God has taught people to have faith in him and not forget who the ultimate creator is. In Genesis it can't be more clear! The bible is GOD'S word and is to be: our guide through life, the message of ultimate salvation, and all the answers we're ever going to need.In a section in the preface named, "How to Study the Bible" in The Inspirational Study Bible edited by Max Lucado, it says, "There is no way on earth to explain it. Which perhaps is the only explanation. The bible's durability (and spiritual influence) is not found on earth; it is found in heaven. For the millions who have tested its claims and claimed its promises there is but one answer- the bible is God's book and God's voice." I fully rely on the bible to satisfy my questioning about why we're here and how we got here. Evolution is simply change over time which has little to do with the bible's interpretation of creation. Since the bible is God's word, we are to believe in what he tells us! Would an honest and pure higher power lie to us or mislead us? The answer is no because God's mission is to bring his children home(Come to be with him up in heaven someday.) We are HIS creation and are made in his image ("So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them."-Genesis 1:27,28 KJV) and God wants us to live the life he intended for us. This includes proclaiming our faith and allowing for our souls to be saved! Hell is not a joke and should not be taken lightly or "from a scientific point of view." We either get our act together and ask forgiveness for our sins or be thrown into hell for eternity! "And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire."-Revelation 20:15 KJV. It deeply disturbs me to see more and more people turn away from God! Choose God! Choose salvation! Choose LIFE people! I see myself as a Flat Earth Creationist and am strictly for the bible and God's explanation. The bible clearly states, "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth."-Genesis 1:1 NKJ. It's right there in the first line of the whole book! All work is CLEARLY His, "he rested on the seventh day from all his work which HE had made."-Genesis 2:2 NKJ. I don't need all the scientific proof crap, ha! Why do we question what we don't understand? Because we're human and God instilled in us a mind that wants to know why. I find comfort in the Lord and am filled with the joy of his love, I turn to him for everything. My life is forever changed for the better because of me accepting him and giving him praise and worship, which is rightfully his. I personally believe that all scientific evolution theories are CRAP. One has to look for the answer in the right places, why don't scientists open up their bibles for once and dig their nose around in there for a while? I love science, it's one of my favorite subjects in school, but evolution is not something schools should teach and i do not support it. I see this as actually encouraging people to turn away from the simplicity of it all, the simple true fact that the best way we can explain how we got here is God! Glory be to God! "O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together!" For, "I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth."-Psalms 34:3,1 KJV

Evolution is regarded as controversial because of the clash with religion. Some people only believe in one or the other, and will not accept that both beliefs could be right. Each side believes it is right, and will not back down. For many people, being right about this is a mater of pride. They will not accept any possibility of being wrong. I fall somewhere around the category of 5 because I believe in some parts of evolution and I also believe that God created the world.

Creationism vs. Evolution is controversial because the ones who are indeed religious will fight for their beleifs and will never support the scientific evidence provided thru evolution. The section of the Bible (Gen 2:19) states that the animals were created before Adam and not in his presence, however, it doesn't say anything about evolution or how the animals got there in the first place. As far as where I stand I best fit myself in the Agnostic seciton, because -like some people- I am not very religious and don't know much about it. So, i do not beleive that religion connects any way to the scientific evidence concerning evolution. Religion is defined as "a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe" and no where does it say the words "fact" or "scientific". The beleifs of one religion can refute the proven facts of studies based on the Bible or their church. I cannot say that they never support the facts of future studies and statistics, but in this case the religious views don't have anything to do with the scientific views.
